Celebrating its 10th year the Cannonball Run Africa is
convened by Round Table and is organised by Super Car Lifestyle.
All funds generated by the Run are donated to the QuadPara
Association of South Africa (QASA) and to date the Cannonball Run
Africa has raised hundreds of thousands of Rand in charity
money.
The 10th running of the event will be held from August 9 to August
12, with the briefing evening on August 8 2012 and returning home
at leisure on August 13, and there is a potential for a border
crossing.
Governed by a strict set of rules and guidelines to ensure the
safety of contestants, marshals and spectators the Cannonball Run
is not a race. It is a motoring adventure and tests contestant's
skill, general knowledge and teamwork - and the rules of the road
are to be obeyed at all times.
Entrants for this year's Run will have two goals in mind. The
first will be to be crowned the champion of the 2012 instalment of
the Cannonball Run Africa and the second will be to raise money for
the QASA.
The route is planned meticulously by the event organisers and
remains a highly guarded secret throughout the Run.
"This year, like every other year, contestants will be oblivious
to the route of the Run. They will have to use their wits and
general knowledge to decipher the clues which we give them. If they
cheat, speed or do not collect a clue it will count against them.
This is more than just a test of their driving skill," Ross
Crichton the organiser of the event said.
This year more than 50 cars are expected to enter the run and some
of the machines that will be on show include Ferrari's,
Lamborghini's, Porsche's and BMW's to name but a few.
